Integrative Medicine
In the last century, the world witnessed rapid advances in diagnostics, vaccines and drug delivery, that led to considerable decline in mortalities across the globe. While life expectancy has improved, and the rising economy has resulted in improved living conditions, these haven’t necessarily translated into improved health and wellbeing. Poor health, wellbeing and quality of life is observed due to changing lifestyles, practices and behaviors, changing environmental conditions, be it the external environment including the social spaces that we live in or our inner bio-psycho-physiologic milieu.
Today, the focus is largely on disease and illness, by both the mainstream health care providers and the people, and not as much on disease prevention or health promotion. This is not so much due to dearth of interventions, as much as due to lack of time and prioritization by either the providers or the clients. The limited provider - patient interaction in the busy hospitals and clinics, deprives opportunities for education and counselling toward prevention and health promotion. Patients too are in need of quick-fix solutions amidst their busy routine, so the limited time is mostly targeted towards curing disease. The efforts are mainly targeted at physical, physiological or psychological planes of recovery when on contrary, the wellness dimensions spread farther and deeper to encompass intellectual, spiritual, social and occupational planes of existence. This sense of vacuum in addressing client holistically, is leading to frustration. For want of experiencing deeper healing and lasting recovery, they move from pillar to post, and try different fields of medicine, both conventional and non-conventional.

In the last few years, there is acknowledgement and heightened awareness of strengths and limitations of different fields of medicine. This era is of Integrative Medicine that aims to bring conventional and complementary approaches together in a coordinated way. Alongside curing disease, addressing wellbeing and quality of life through integrated approaches are increasingly sought after. However, the scientific backing in terms of what is the right mix for integration and how do they converge while remaining client-centric, is far from wanting.
The Center strives to enhance scientific rigor in integrating the strengths of different fields of medicine, providing services and interventions to clients in a manner that harmoniously integrates prevention, promotion, treatment and care. The centre will also focus toward integrating solutions into one’s lifestyle seamlessly so as to sustain their wellbeing for prolonged periods.
